The arc does have focus on character development, but it barely uses a dramatic tone to achieve that. The argument that the previous arc focused more on character development, therefore you can make the opening with a extreme focus on drama and melancholy is false.
I do agree that SNK isn't just about the action, but the best way of showing it isn't making an Opening with a completely different tonality of the arc. For me at least I only really came to appreciate it after the ep where the reveal for Eren's dad was made, fuck the feels.

It was a great change of pace and imo the best point in the series to go with this sort of tone for an OP considering how much bigger character development remained as a focus for the first part at least. Why do you consider Red Swan atrocious? I love it because of how well it raises a counter-argument against the people that claim AoT is nothing but mindless action, it's such a beautiful song and such a serene OP in contrast to the events the characters are all going through that instead of hyping up people for grandiose battles, the OP reminds the viewers of everything the characters we've been following are fighting for. It made me feel I was looking at photos about moments of the show. Also, that green filter was just weird.Įnding was cute. Well, at least it's not Red Sawn, which is just atrocious. It isn't bad, but can you say this was one of the best openings of all time? I can safely say that about the first 3 OP, but this one is just ok.
I'm strong fan of Linked Horizon, but they have made me disappointed here.
